III. Approval of the Minutes
Tonia Whatley made a motion to approve the March minutes. Dee Nance seconded. Minutes approved.
IV. Treasurer's Report
January Starting Balance $3,112.93
Ending Balance $3,409.93

V. Chair's Remarks- Brian Davis
- State Board Board meeting was held in Montgomery on June 11.
- Agenda Item #1: TR Committee asked for a fee to support the Tri-State Inclusion Conference in Mississippi. Discussion was held concerning the timing of the request. District 6 stated they would pay the fee if the board did not approve it.- item passed.
- Agenda Item #2: Aging Committee changed the name to “Alabama 50 Committee” - item passed.
- Agenda Item #3: Increase in cost of state conference due to the increase in the banquet cost. The board approved to increase the conference fee to $195 which includes a ticket to the banquet
- Lindsay Dean and Mike Sullivan are working on updating and improving the CEU form.
- Paul Morton was in attendance and had discussion on the what is the direction of the ARPF?
- Long Range Plan discussion was held. ARPA mission statement was changed: “To advance the profession through leadership, education, advocacy, promotion and service”
- Work day to clean up the state office – laid sod, picked up trash, etc. Lindsay Dean is looking into working with a local landscaping company to do landscaping around the state office.
- Ed Norton and Brian Phelps held a discussion on long range planning. CEUs were available.
VI. Committee Reports
a) Recreational Sports - Stacey Ewing reported Jasper will hold the State Softball Tournament July 11-13, Scottsboro will hold the state swim and dive meet July 26-28. Bids for state tournaments is June 27. Brian Davis stated that two players from Mobile were suspended from ARPA due to fighting.
b) Publicity and Publication- Brian Davis reported the Alabamian deadline is July 15. This should include affiliate activities for the months of September – November. Note the difference: Leisure Lines or Upcoming Events.
c) Education- Brian Davis stated that they will host a workshop on “health and nutritional wellness programs” on August 26. State workshop in Orange Beach – working on speakers -topic “how to host large events”
d) Membership - No Report
e) Therapeutics- Alicia Lee reported several members of the committee attended the Tri-State Inclusion Conference in Mississippi. The committee is working on confirming a host site for the Invitational Swim Meet in October.
f) Cultural Diversity Section - No Report
g) Public Policy- No Report
h) Marketing- Several ARPA board members attended and represented ARPA at the League of Municipalities- Tonia Whatley stated that it was very beneficial. ARPA will be selling short sleeve and long sleeve shirts for the 65th year celebration. They will be sold through July 11.
i) Fundraising- No Report
j) Scholarship- Dee Nance reported that they will be sending out information and applications in July. The deadline will be September 1.
k) Professional Development - Mike Sullivan asked if everyone had received information concerning the LEAD program. Deadline for returning applications is September 3.
l) Awards- No Report
m) 50 Committee - No Report
n) Certification – No Report
VII. Old Business-
Mike Sullivan stated that he sent out information to all ARPA members asking if they would like to be apart of a mentoring program. He will be sending out another email to ask the members who would like to be mentored.
VIII. New Business-
COPP Golf Tournament will be October 7. Tonia Whatley asked for volunteers to work the tournament. Deadline for entry is September 30. Tonia Whatley made a motion that District III sponsor a hole at the COPP Golf Tournament for $150.00. Dee Nance seconded. Motion approved.
IX. Affiliate News
Brain Davis stated that Orange Beach Parks and Recreation is the first in the state to become accredited.
Vestavia Hills- July 3rd they will host “I Love America Day”
Jasper- opened new park- AP Howell. “Take a Kid Fishing” this weekend. Twilight 5k run every month to benefit APEX. Art in the Park next weekend.
Centerpoint- 1st public park opened- new senior center being built.
Homewood- Burkley Squires from Eufaula is the new director. Hoover and Homewood seniors played each other in Wii bowling. Hoover won. Annual 4th of July celebration in downtown Homewood from 6-9pm.
Tuscaloosa- Introduced their new Events Manager, Melinda Burnett; new center is scheduled to open October 1. Splash park is being renovated.
Hoover- Movies in the park every other Friday night, Petapalooza November 15, Master Games (District) August 18-22, State Master Games, October 6-8.
Alabaster- Movie and Music in the park on Friday nights. New therapeutic recreation program started this summer. Preliminary plans being made for a new senior center.
